SHORT-LIVED LABOR DAY SALE. I know you’re busy and it is a holiday weekend. But I bet you have at least a nagging interest in this; maybe a haunting. We can help. And on sale, too. Hooray!

Our bookstore, as you probably know, has long stocked a whole lot of titles that help people of faith ponder the implications of thinking faithfully about various careers and jobs. Our employment (if you are still working) matters to God and there are ways to consider our beliefs about this and live out faithful practices about the dignity and meaning of our labor. Some would say reading these sorts of books brings a whole lot of light to their lives.

Whether you hear this in church or not, we believe it is essential to a learn a bit more about a Christian perspective on work. Connecting the dots between Sunday and Monday, between liturgy and labor, so to speak. I know a number of people missed my enthusiastic column last week with its robust description of almost 40 books about faith and work. (Not to mention the links to some other good columns, lists, and websites.)

Although the boundaries are a bit fuzzy, I grouped them into four categories:

  1. The first list of 10 are inexpensive and mostly brief. Delightful and inspiring to read, these are some of my favorites. Very highly recommended.
  2. The second batch of 10 are only a bit more complex but still not too academic or costly. These really are the crème de la crème in many ways.
  3. The third list includes titles which are somewhat more rigorous, specialized, or pricey. All good; very good.
  4. The fourth smaller list is comprised of fantastic books but they tend to be specilized for pastors or church leaders. If you are in ministry of any kind, these are for you.

HERE’S OUR LABOR DAY SPECIAL OFFER — GOOD UNTIL MIDNIGHT SEPTEMBER 8th while supplies last. On Wednesday they go back to our 20% off on-going disocunt.
